If you haven't heard, Jimmy Wales, the founder of wikipedia, just raised $4 million for his commercial wiki venture, wikia.
This is pretty significant for a bunch of reasons, but mostly it's validation of the wiki-pedia, community generated content model as the basis for a business. Of course, wikipedia couldn't just turn around and add ads since they have been accepting donations, etc..., but it's pretty easy for Jimmy to take some of the communities steam and pour it into his commerical wikia venture.
Here's a wikia site I came accross getting ready for this Thursday's poker tournament at work: PokerWiki. I love how people do so much within the wiki-markup constraints.
Also: tomorrow I'll get to finally reveal the sweet new product we've been hatching in our lab at work. Hopefully you'll hear about it in the press, or on the A-List blogs before you hear it here, but in case you don't, check back tomorrow for the link!
